										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The major providers of flow simulation software, such as <a href="https://www.ansys.com/de-de/products/fluids/ansys-fluent" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ansys Fluent</a>, <a class="_ps2id" href="https://www.ansys.com/products/fluids/ansys-cfx" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-ps2id-offset="">Ansys CFX</a>, <a href="https://www.plm.automation.siemens.com/global/de/products/simcenter/STAR-CCM.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Simcenter Star CCM+</a>, <a href="https://www.flow3d.com/">FLOW-3D<sup>®</sup></a> oder <a href="https://www.simerics.com/simerics-mp-plus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Simerics MP+</a> each offer in-program options for evaluating and visualising simulation results.</p>
<p>In our company, the engineers also use different software for flow calculations, depending on the application. For the visualisation of the results, however, we mostly use only 1 product &#8211; and this has been the case for many years: <a href="https://www.fieldviewcfd.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">FieldView</a>.</p>
<p>What we appreciate about FieldView is the ease of use, the high degree of automation when comparing calculation results of geometry and case variants, the enormous number of <a href="https://www.fieldviewcfd.com/resources/solver-interfaces/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interfaces to commercial and non-commercial flow simulation programmes</a> and the handling of large and very large amounts of data in client-server mode.</p>
<p>An example: The first two pictures show two variants of the flow through an aneurysm in a blood vessel. Differences in pressure are difficult to see. If you use the &#8220;Dataset Comparison&#8221; feature to compare the pressure in image 2 with the pressure in image 1, the existing pressure differences can be elegantly visualised (red: higher pressure, grey: identical pressure, blue: lower pressure).</p>

<p>The automation of repetitive tasks is also very conveniently solved by restart files and &#8211; if required &#8211; the script language FVX. Visualisations can thus actually be created with a click of the mouse.</p>
<p>Thanks to comprehensive downward compatibility, result files and self programmed routines can still be read into the latest FieldView version without any problems, even after many years. And the development of FieldView continues: one focus is on processing the enormous amounts of data that arise due to the rapidly growing hardware performance in three-dimensional flow calculations &#8211; Big data!</p>

Handling them, writing and reading the data, often proves to be a bottleneck during the workflow.</p>
<p>Our long-standing software partner, the data specialists from <a href="https://www.ilight.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Intelligent Light</a>, have now developed <a href="http://kombyne.net/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kombyne™</a>, a High Performance Computing (HPC) library that allows the user to extract and render result data in real time during the running CFD calculation without significantly disturbing the working memory and computing power (keywords: &#8220;on the fly&#8221;/&#8221;in-situ&#8221;/&#8221;in-transit&#8221;). Furthermore, Kombyne is also able to control CFD calculations during the run (&#8220;steering&#8221;). <p>CFD Consultants GmbH has been involved in the project for years: In order to make Kombyne™ available for the various CFD codes, interfaces to these codes have to be programmed. Our engineer René Thümmler was involved in the integration of Kombyne™ into the CFD code Hydra. Hydra is the in-house calculation tool of the turbine manufacturer Rolls-Royce for the aerodynamic design of gas turbines. An article on the calculation of compressor maps of a multi-stage axial compressor using Kombyne™ calculation control was published in January 2022 in San Diego as part of the AIAA SCITECH 2022 Forum (link to <a href="https://arc.aiaa.org/doi/abs/10.2514/6.2022-1723" target="_blank" rel="noopener">article</a> and <a href="https://video.aiaa.org/title/b7d51fbd-c021-4a10-917f-3b8edb3280db" target="_blank" rel="noopener">video presentation</a>).</p>

<p>Mit Wirkung zum 25. Mai 2021 wurde Herr Prof. Dr.-Ing. Volker Kassera zum Honorarprofessor der Technischen Universität Kaiserslautern ernannt. Prof. Kassera ist seit mehr als 15 Jahren als externer Lehrbeauftragter im Bereich der Strömungslehre (CFD-Simulation) im Fachbereich Maschinenbau und Verfahrenstechnik tätig.</p>
<p>Er studierte an der TU München Maschinenbau und promovierte dort 1996 mit dem Thema „Entwicklung eines numerischen Berechnungsverfahrens für Schwingungen querangeströmter Rohrbündel“. Hierbei erstellte er eigene CFD Codes zur Simulation der Fluid-Struktur-Kopplung. Seit 1998 ist er Mitinhaber bzw. Geschäftsführer der CFD Consultants GmbH.</p>
<p>Der Fachbereich Maschinenbau und Verfahrenstechnik heißt Herrn Prof. Kassera als Honorarprofessor im Fachbereich herzlich willkommen und freut sich auf die weitere Zusammenarbeit.</p>

<p>Ibrahim Başhoruz was involved in various projects in our company, for example in the areas of automobile racing, wind tunnel, flow around buildings or the flow around wing profiles and worked very well into the operation of software tools for numerical flow simulations (CAD data preparation and pre-processing with Rhino and Pointwise, numerical simulation with Ansys Fluent, post-processing with FieldView).</p>
<p>During the lecture Fluid Mechanics III &#8211; CFD and the exercise in CFD, which our managing director Dr. Volker Kassera held this year purely virtually as a video conference with ZOOM for the students of the Chair of Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Machinery (SAM) at the Technical University of Kaiserlautern, he was always happy to assist.</p>

<p>Anyone who has ever attended a concert &#8211; whether symphony or rock concert &#8211; has experienced that this is a pleasure for (almost) all our senses. For an unforgettable experience, no, you have to be able to feel, see and above all hear the music.</p>
<p>This is especially true for the musicians themselves, who present their art on stage. In order to be able to bring these to the fore, however, the musician must be able to hear his comrades-in-arms himself, in order to be able to time the performances correctly, to be able to adjust the volume precisely.</p>
<p>In the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz (Ludwigshafen) the rehearsal hall is currently being renovated. The aim is to improve the acoustics for the musicians &#8211; and of course also for the listeners &#8211; in order to make listening an experience for everyone.</p>
<p>The new acoustic concept not only sets the tone in terms of acoustics, but also has an effect on all other trades &#8211; especially ventilation technology. The specifications developed provide for ventilation of the rehearsal room exclusively from below.</p>
<p>This means that the air supply must also take place in the area of the musicians and thus of the parked instruments. For the &#8220;clean&#8221; sound of the instrument, temperature fluctuations should be kept as low as possible. If this is not the case, the first notes of the musical instrument may sometimes sound &#8220;wrong&#8221;.</p>
<p>In order to rule this out, the ventilation system may only be operated in a narrow temperature range, which leads to the question of whether the resulting room climate is perceived by all &#8211; musicians and spectators &#8211; as pleasant and conducive to music enjoyment.</p>
<p>Since the question cannot be clarified with the help of experiments, during the planning phase the test room was examined with the help of numerical flow simulation (CFD) and the ventilation concept was checked or adapted according to the results obtained. <p>The investigations carried out show that the musical instruments do not have to &#8220;freeze&#8221; and that there is nothing to prevent the enjoyment of the music played from this side.</p>
<p>Beat Fehlmann, director of the Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, welcomed the new acoustic concept in an interview with SWR: &#8220;I have great hopes that we will create a workplace that will make it possible to improve quality. The overall sound of the orchestra, the interplay, the precision, the fine tuning among each other. That when something doesn&#8217;t work it is exaggerated to say one&#8217;s own inadequacy and not some factor you can&#8217;t influence. The listeners can hear the orchestra as a whole better, including the individual voices. And that makes the concert experience even more lively.&#8221;</p>
